The city police used strong laws, specifically the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), against a gang operating across state borders involved in the illegal selling of guns and bullets. This gang was being looked into for their role in the Mominpura murder case, where hotel owner Jameel Ahmed was shot and killed in October last year.
The MCOCA has been applied to approximately 10 individuals involved in the illegal trade of firearms, marking the second use of this law from the same case. The recent application of MCOCA was carried out by Ganeshpeth police. During the investigation of the murder, about 21 firearms and nearly 150 bullets were seized from locations in Madhya Pradesh and various parts of the city.
CP Amitesh Kumar announced a reward of 2 lakh for the Tehsil police station team, under Senior Inspector Vinod Patil, Inspector Sandeep Buwa, Head Constable Sanjay Sahu, and others. The murder case of Ahmed, registered at Tehsil police station in October last year, resulted in the Tehsil police invoking MCOCA against the alleged assailants—Mohd Sohel Parvez Khan, Salman Khan, Ashish Bisen, and their accomplices after identifying the offence. A significant quantity of firearms and ammunition was seized from them.
Following an investigation led by CP Amitesh Kumar and Zonal DCP Gorakh Bhamre, the involvement of an interstate gang, including Feroze Khan Haji, Imran Alam, Mohsin Khan, Irshad Khan, Parvez Ahmed, and others like Mudassar Ali and Maqbool Khan from Madhya Pradesh, came to fore. The interstate gang, which brought the firearms and ammunitions from MP, supplied them to the city’s underworld. While initially linked to the Tehsil police station murder case, the Ganeshpeth police booked the gun-runners and their clients after discovering that some firearms and ammunition were exchanged within their jurisdiction. After reviewing their criminal records, CP Kumar decided to invoke MCOCA against them in Ganeshpeth as well.
