Taking action to stop the sale and usage of the banned nylon manja, Nagpur Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar released an awareness documentary on Tuesday. This dangerous material has been banned by both the National Green Tribunal and Bombay High Court.
Earlier enforcing CrPC 144 to restrict the sale, purchase, distribution, or stocking of nylon manja, Commissioner Kumar has now directed all police station in-charges and the Crime Branch to intensify efforts against traders or buyers of this deadly thread. The city police have already seized nylon manja stocks exceeding Rs 3 lakh in value in eight cases this year.
Nagpur police attribute the production of nylon manja to Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Despite the Maharashtra Government’s ban on its sale and use, nylon manja is persistently available online. The court has summoned the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and urged the chief secretary to raise awareness among their counterparts in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, the court has expressed dissatisfaction with the Maharashtra Government, criticizing its inability to effectively regulate the usage of nylon manja.
