Ekal Abhiyan Organizes National Sports Competition for Tribal Youth
In an effort to provide sporting opportunities to tribal youth in rural areas and identify their talents, Ekal Abhiyan is organizing a National Sports Competition from January 19 to January 21 2024, at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Vidypeeth Kridangan, Law College Square, near Nagpur. This initiative is a part of the Gram Swaraj Yojana’s Abhyuday Youth Club.
During a press briefing, Mr. Madhavendra Singh, Ekal Abhiyan’s National Coordinator, announced the participation of 1200 players from 30 states in the national sports competition.
The competition will kick off with the ‘Khel Jyoti Yatra’ on the evening of January 19, starting from Ram Nagar Chowk and concluding at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Vidypeeth Kridangan, Law College Square. The inauguration ceremony on the second day (January 20) at 5 PM will be conducted by Mr. Vishnu Dev Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. Notable guests include Mr. Indra Dev Narayan (CMD – MECL), Mr. Vishal Agrawal (Managing Director – R.C. Plasto Tanks and Pipes Private Limited), and Mr. Subhash Choudhary (Vice-Chancellor, RTM Nagpur University). The program will be chaired by Mr. Subhash Choudhary.
The awards distribution ceremony is scheduled on January 21 at 5 PM, with Mr. Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, as the chief guest, Mr. Sudhir Munagantiwar, Minister of Forest and Cultural Affairs, Maharashtra State, as the program president, and Mr. Nandu Sarada, Vanbandhu Parishad Sallagar, Nagpur, as a special guest. The concluding ceremony on January 22, 2024, at 9:00 AM will feature Mr. Sanjay Dudhe as the chief guest, Mrs. Pramila Tai Mendhe as the special guest, and Mrs. Chitra Tai Joshi as the program chairperson.
The national sports competition will feature events such as sprinting (100 meters for boys and girls), long jump (200 and 400 meters for boys and girls), high jump (for boys and girls), kabaddi (for boys and girls), wrestling (45 kg, 48 kg, 51 kg, 55 kg), and yoga (for men and women).
Ekal Abhiyan, founded in 1989 with the vision of Swami Vivekananda, has been working towards nation-building by establishing schools in remote forest areas. The organization has successfully set up 102,052 schools, providing primary education, health education, character education, awareness education, and development education to contribute to holistic development across India.
