When a sleeper coach on the Mumbai-Howrah Mail recently changed into a general compartment, passengers had a terrifying experience even though they had confirmed reservation tickets for their train ride. This incident happened when women and children traveled with Kulbhushan Dahale and Abhijeet Band from Nagpur.
There were a lot of people in the sleeper coach, making it difficult for everyone to get to their assigned beds. The cramped conditions in every sleeper compartment made it difficult to use the restrooms. Notably, travelers began to sleep in the aisles of the coach. Dahale and Band related a similar experience they had while traveling through Nagpur on the train back from Malda to Surat.
Dahale questioned the effectiveness of railway officials in handling passengers in reserved coaches who had general tickets. He was in favor of making plans to carry extra people in the passenger compartment.
In addition, he insisted on conducting surprise inspections in the coaches that were reserved.
