Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has been chosen as the chairperson of the opposition bloc INDIA after intense deliberations, sources report. Despite no official announcement yet, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, another contender, suggested during the meeting that the position should go to someone from Congress. The INDIA bloc, comprising opposition parties, including Congress, aims to challenge the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Today’s meeting, attended by representatives from various parties, emphasized the importance of national unity. However, challenges persist, including seat-sharing disputes in states like Uttar Pradesh, and disagreements with AAP over seat distribution in Delhi, Punjab, Goa, Haryana, and Gujarat.
