Renowned Hindusthani Classical Singer Dr Prabha Atre passed away in Pune on Saturday morning. She was 92. She was honoured with all three highest civilian Padma awards for her contribution to the field of music.
Dr Atre suffered a heart attack while being taken to a hospital, as she felt difficulties in breathing. Born in Pune to Aabasaheb and Indirabai Atre, she started taking lessons in music at the age of eight. She learned music in Guru-Shishya Parampara from Kirana Gharana’s Sureshbabu Mane and Hirabai Badodekar. Besides music, she also took training in Kathak Dance.
Ste acquired a bachelor’s degree in Science from Ferguson College, Pune and later a law degree (LLB) from Pune University.
