Anurag Thakur, the union’s minister of sports, declared that the government would take Indian traditional games, such as mallakhamb, global. He was speaking on Friday at the city’s Yashwant Stadium during the launch of the sixth edition of Khasdar Krida Mahotsav.
Nitin Gadkari, a union minister, served as the event chairman. The dais was shared by MLA Mohan Mate, MLA Krishna Khopde, Jitendra Thakur, IOA member Amitabh Sharma, and others. Speaking further, Thakur declared that the country will see the opening of up to 1,000 Khelo India centers by the government.
“Gadkari is breaking his own record every year by conducting this event for the past six years,” Thakur remarked, praising Gadkari’s work. It’s acceptable to plan the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav for a year or two. However, it is truly commendable to have done it year after year for six years, improving every year. Every year, Gadkari surpasses his own record. It is not cruel to award a total of Rs 1.35 crore in prize money. Imagine the caliber of athletes India could produce if 300 MPs from across the nation organized such an event.
He went on to say that Nagpurians are fortunate to have Nitin Gadkari as their MP. Few MPs nationwide are actively involved in KKM organization within their respective constituencies. 1.35 crore is not a significant reward. The fact that 65,000 players participated and that thousands of medals and certificates were given out is significant, according to Thakur.
The Minister further announced that he would invite the chosen players for the conditioning camps and would dispatch SAI coaches and selectors to Nagpur to look for talent. The Sports Minister said that he would attempt to set up camps in Nagpur in the future.
