The family of Rajesh Kuhikar, a 54-year-old airline trolley driver who allegedly died in an accident at the airport, brought his to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport yesterday to protest his death. Police intervened, returning the body for the last rites. Police said Kuhikar was found near the tyre of the trolley.
He reportedly fell, suffering injuries as the front tire of the trolley likely rolled over him, resulting in broken ribs and damage to internal organs. The place where Kuhikar sustained injuries was not covered under CCTVs, adding complexity to the situation. Sources said that Kuhikar was alive when colleagues rushed him to AIIMS Nagpur, but he was declared dead later.
In addition to suspecting foul play in the death, protesters demanded for compensation for the victim’s daughters and widow. The airline representatives have expressed willingness to assist the family.
