In the ongoing TATA Steel Chess Tournament, chess prodigy Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa made history on Tuesday, January 16, defeating world champion Ding Liren and surpassing seasoned Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand to take the top spot among Indian Grandmasters for the first time in his career.
Praggnanandhaa was taken aback by his victory over the Chinese world champion because he did not anticipate the latter to lose so quickly.
“It’s good. I think the first three games were quite interesting. I think I am playing well but it was the same case last year. There was a point when I was playing really well and then my play dropped quite badly so I think it’s really important to keep the energy high till the end of the tournament.”
