The FSSAI, the regulatory body for food, has asked airlines and in-flight caterers to adhere to its food safety regulations. They are required to ensure compliance by providing comprehensive details about the items served to passengers through appropriate labeling.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) held a meeting, with prominent flight caterers and airlines on January 16. The purpose was to assess and strengthen the current food safety protocols within the airline catering industry, as outlined in a statement released by the regulator on Wednesday.
The meeting aimed to pinpoint areas in need of improvement and reaffirm the dedication to delivering passengers with both safe and of top-notch quality meals.
“Acknowledging a common concern regarding the lack of readily available information for passengers regarding in flight food, the CEO, FSSAI directed all flight caterers and airlines to strictly comply with sub-regulation 5(10) (f) and 8 (4) of the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020,” the statement said.
This directive seeks to enhance transparency by providing passengers with detailed information regarding the composition, source, and manufacturing specifics of the food served during flights. The CEO highlighted the importance of menu labeling as a potent tool to inform passengers about the contents of the food, enabling them to make well-informed choices.
