Traffic challans worth more than Rs 50 crore are still pending in Nagpur. The number of unpaid challans is increasing but there is no concrete plan for its recovery. The police runs special campaigns for recovery of unpaid challans, despite this it is not achieving much success.
Last year, the police issued challan against more than 12 lakh drivers. In this, maximum challans of more than 6 lakh were issued against those who did not wear helmets. The number of people driving over speed, signal jump, triple seat and without license is also not less. even in the year 2022, the police had issued challan against 9.73 lakh people. In comparison to the year 2022, there have been approximately 2.50 lakh more challans in the year 2023.
A special campaign is being run to recover unpaid challans. Between January 11 and January 20, the police conducted a special operation in the city and recovered challans worth approximately Rs 88 lakh. Due to sudden visits and arrangements of VIPs, it is not possible to run this campaign continuously. The cases of those who do not pay the challan are sent to the court. Summons are issued to them by the court. Lok Adalat is to be held next month. There is a possibility of settlement of challan on a large scale.
