With first of its kind ‘Lifestyle Intervention Clinic’, AIIMS, Nagpur is all set to take to upgrade patients’ health & lifestyle in an innovative way. The Clinic is set to start services which include disease specific yoga, regular yoga and physical activity sessions for patients, faculty, and students. In a press conference held at AIIMS Premises Dr. M. Hanumantha Rao, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS, Nagpur informed that they have start culinary sessions for patients to empower them with the skills of healthy cooking.
Many of the patients are willing to change their dietary habits but don’t know what supplementary habits they should adopt. The culinary sessions will help them to adopt supplementary measures. The Clinic is headed by The Department of Physiology. It emphasizes on six pillars of Lifestyle Medicine: whole-food, plant-predominant eating; regular physical activity; restorative sleep; stress management; positive social connection; and avoidance of risky substances.
Dr Mrunal Pathak , Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology informed that the clinic is also going to conduct short-term training courses and certificate courses for health care workers for their capacity building in lifestyle consultation. It has made substantial impact, by conducting thorough assessments and formulating personalized action plans for approximately 1000 plus patients. the Clinic in providing evidence-based lifestyle prescription for both the treatment and prevention of various non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiovascular diseases, Type 2 diabetes, PCOD, and obesity.
The Lifestyle OPD is situated on the first floor of the AYUSH building and the OPD operates from Monday to Friday 9 AM to5 PM and on Saturdays 9 AM to 1 PM. It was inaugurated on 11th October 2021 by former Director, Major General Dr. Vibha Dutta. The Clinic made it to the news when Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar visited the facility few days back.
