A passenger trying to smuggle gold was arrested at the Nagpur International Airport early on Thursday and 549 grams of gold worth Rs 34 lakh was seized from him. This gold was in paste form. this action was taken by the Central Customs Department.
Based on passenger profiling, officials foiled an attempt to smuggle gold at Nagpur International Airport in the early hours of January 25. The Indian passport holder and resident of Kerala was traveling from Sharjah to Nagpur by Qatar Airways flight QR-590. His attempt was to smuggle gold in paste form. Gold in paste form was hidden in the inner garment he wore.
The passenger, a resident of Kerala, attempted to evade customs duty by traveling to Nagpur for the first time. However, his suspicious activities were caught under the watchful eye of the alert and vigilant officials of the Customs Department at Nagpur Airport. After further processing the above gold was seized.
