The Nagpur Division of Special Olympics India will be organising Special Olympics for individuals with disabilities starting from today (Tuesday 30 January, 2024) at the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University grounds. Bhagwan Talware, Division Director of Special Olympics Bharat, shared that over six hundred athletes from various parts of the State will be taking part in the competition.
A three-day Olympics will feature eleven sports, including athletics, badminton, football, volleyball, table tennis, skating, swimming, basketball, handball, powerlifting, and boxing. “Approximately 600 disabled players and 150 coaches from 36 districts will participate in the competition. All competitions, except swimming, will take place at the university grounds and Subhedar Hall. The swimming competitions will be held at the NIT swimming pool, Ambazari. Attractive prizes will be given to the winners,” stated Talware.
The tournament will be inaugurated at 11 am in presence of Kirit Sommaiah and Mallika Nadda. On the occasion, Dr Subhash Chaudhary, Vice- Chancellor, RTMNU, Area Director, Special Olympics India DG Chaudhary and others will also remain present.
