In a bid to enhance the city’s ranking and foster a culture of cleanliness among its residents, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched the Swachh Market competition. The registration for competition starts from February 1 and will continue till February 10. Market committees interested in participating can submit their nominations at the Swachh Bharat Mission office located at the NMC Headquarters in Civil Lines. The winner market committee will get a prize of Rs 15 lakh.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Anchal Goyal shared that during February 15 to 29 a baseline study would be undertaken with the help of All India Institute of Local Self Government and survey of first leg from March 1 to 31 and its evaluation from April 1 to 15. Second leg will be from April 1 to May 1, and its evaluation process is going to be held between June 1 and 15.
Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari convened a meeting with market committee representatives at NMC Headquarters, emphasizing the aim of the competition to enhance the city’s livability and cleanliness in line with Nagpur @2025. Dr. Chaudhari highlighted that the prize money would be utilized for beautification and amenities in the markets, contributing to the city’s overall aesthetic. This, in turn, is expected to boost trade and have indirect benefits across all sections of society.
At the meeting, Addl Commissioner explained the traders that markets are reflection of the city and hence a clean and properly maintained public places would create good reflection among visitors.
