Un-Islamic marriage case
Pakistan’s Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been slapped with another term of seven years in jail by a trial court in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail. The court ordered seven years imprisonment for both for their un-Islamic marriage. The sentence was pronounced by the court on Saturday.
This is the third conviction this week for Imran Khan, who is also the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). His wife Bushra Bibi is convicted for the second time.
The case relating to the un-Islamic marriage was initiated by Bushra Bibi’s former husband Khawar Maneka. Earlier on Wednesday, the Accountability Court had sentenced to 14 years in jail for both in the Toshakhana case. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were charged with retaining expensive gifts received as Prime Minister. The couple is also barred from holding any public office for ten years. They were also slapped with a fine of Rs 787 million each.
Imran was sentenced to a jail term of ten years in the cipher case, for leaking secret official documents.
Maneka had termed Imran and Bushra’s marriage un-Islamic, as the marriage was solemnised during Bushra’s Iddat period, following their divorce. He contended that the marriage was neither legal nor Islamic.
