Resident doctors with government medical college hospitals (GMCHs) across the state have announced an indefinite strike starting 5 pm on February 7, citing prolonged non-payment of stipends, irregular disbursements and overall ‘Illtreatment’ of doctors. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) gave the strike call, highlighting the crucial role resident doctors play in healthcare delivery.
MARD had called for a strike on January 3, 2023, regarding demands for stipend payment on the 10th of each month and hostel facilities. Despite assurances from the government, demands remained unmet even after 393 days. Consequently, MARD has decided to launch a statewide protest from February 7.
MARD has assured that all emergency services would continue during the strike. However, they urged the Maharashtra government to address their concerns at the earliest to avoid further disruptions in healthcare delivery in Maharashtra.
