The City Police initiated a three-hour bomb neutralization operation at Ganeshpeth bus terminus on Wednesday afternoon after a maintenance employee found a suspicious box resembling a ‘tiffin bomb’ near a bus driver’s seat.
Later in the evening, it was confirmed that the box was actually a fire extinguisher from a private company. Despite the false alarm, the incident triggered widespread concern in the city as news of a potential bomb rapidly circulated. The bus involved had previously experienced technical difficulties and had been brought to Ganeshpeth from Aheri depot a week before the incident. Repair work on the bus continued until February 6.
Even though repairs had been completed, the driver failed to reclaim the bus, resulting in it being redirected several times before the suspicious box was discovered during a routine inspection.
The employee promptly alerted authorities, leading to police intervention. This false alarm highlights the vigilance and prompt response of both the public and law enforcement agencies in potential security threats.
