Teaching without application of knowledge is exercise in futility
Uncertainty in life and career has led to a large number of youth visiting religious places very frequently. Although every religion teaches about hard work with faith in the almighty, the youth in general has pinned high expectations of return compared to the hard work they put in.
This is not an attempt to undermine the capabilities of youth. They acquire higher and professional degrees. The present education system has simplified the process of acquiring degrees that includes clearing examinations. Let it be studies in any field a huge set of information is available in books, internet and other sources. A large number of private tuition classes also help the students in getting a set of information that would help them in clearing the examinations, even with higher marks.
The education system at the school and college levels lays importance to scoring marks. Information is provided to the students. They, however, lack how this information can be utilised. Understanding the information available, analysing and thinking over it for a proper application is lacking.
A large number of engineering degree holders can be seen as ‘blank’, when the application of even the basics of principles of physics taught a school level is needed. This is just an example to explain the issue. With a professional degree in hand, the expectations of the degree holder go very high. Logical thinking helps even a two-wheeler mechanic to work efficiently.
I have seen a senior lady officer driving a two-wheeler without looking at the punctured tyres. Only when could understand that the vehicle is not running smoothly? Similar examples can be seen on traffic signals or overtaking any vehicle on a busy road. Most of them fail to apply the principles of velocity of two moving objects while overtaking from right or wrong sides.
A big corporate house had selected 80 engineering students through campus interviews, with an assurance that they would be paid stipends during their training (actually an application of theory to practical). By the end of two weeks, more than half of them left the company due to the hard work they were expected to put in. The company could find only four engineers fit to be absorbed after one year, the others left periodically. Similar is the situation in other places. Failure to stand up to the expectations of the employer through a continuous effort to learn and work hard results in frustration. Large-scale unemployment as projected finds the root cause of the failure of the education system in teaching the application of knowledge the students gained.
This frustration leads to frequent visits to religious places, without understanding what the religion teaches. Even the religious teachers including the parents fail to inculcate religious values with proper understanding. The undue projection of religion by the politicians has further aggravated the situation.
