In a recent press release, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd’s (MSEDCL) flying squad, working in collaboration with the Lashkaribag sub-division, has uncovered 40 cases of electricity theft amounting to a total value of Rs 24 lakh between February 5 and 8.
This collaborative effort exposed the illicit consumption of 95,293 units of electricity by the identified 40 consumers within the Lashkaribag sub-division. Legal action have been initiated against the offenders under Section 135 of the Indian Electricity Act, with the calculated worth of the stolen electricity estimated at around Rs 24,23,560.
During the crackdown, 9 out of the 40 identified consumers voluntarily paid a sum of Rs 3.52 lakhs. The operation was conducted under the supervision of MSEDCL’s Regional Director Suhas Rangari, with the assistance of CE Dilip Dodke, SE Amit Paranjape, Deputy Director Sunil Thapekar, and EE Rajesh Ghatole. The enforcement team included AE Rahul Chintalwar, Brijesh Yadav, Zafar Akbar, Mangrush Taksande, AEE Hemendra Gaur, Shrikant Talegaonkar, and Vivek Raut.
