In an effort to boost solar power usage and promote sustainable progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Tuesday the launch of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’. This initiative aims to provide free electricity of up to 300 units per month to light up one crore households. Modi said that the implementation of the project would involve an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore.
In a post on X, Modi said, “In order to further sustainable development and people’s wellbeing, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project, with an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore, aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month.”
From substantive subsidies, which will be given directly to people’s bank accounts, to heavily concessional bank loans, the central government will ensure that there is no cost burden on the people, the prime minister added.
Modi emphasized the integration of all stakeholders into a National Online Portal. Modi said that in order to popularise this scheme at the grassroots, urban local bodies and panchayats shall be incentivised to promote rooftop solar systems in their jurisdictions. “At the same time, the scheme will lead to more income, lesser power bills and employment generation for people,” the prime minister said. “Let’s boost solar power and sustainable progress.

1) Open https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in
2) Click Apply for Rooftop Solar
3) You have to register first with these details – State, Electricity Distribution Company, Electricity Consumer Number, Mobile Number, and Email.
4) Once done, login with your mobile number to proceed furter.
5) You can now apply for the Rooftop scheme. You have to submit bank detail at any stage of the application.
6) Once you get the feasibility approval, get the plant installed by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM
7) Once installation is completed , submit the plant details and apply for net meter
8) Commissioning certificate will be generated from the portal, after installation of net meter and inspection by DISCOM
9)Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days
