Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj, the present Mahavir of the Jain community breathed his last in Dongargarh, Chhattisgarh, three days after he began the process of Samadhi and gave up food and water.
He had also taken a Maun Vrat (vow to not speak). The Acharya left for heavenly abode at around 2:35 am late in the night.
Known as the gem of the Jain community, Acharya Vidyasagar Maharaj was born in Sadalga village of Karnataka on 10 October 1946, on the day of Sharad Purnima.
As per the information, Acharya Vidyasagar was a disciple of Acharya Gyansagar and when the latter attained Samadhi, he handed over his post of Acharya to Muni Vidyasagar. On Nov 22, 1972, Muni Vidyasagar became Acharya at the age of 26.
He was an expert in classical (Sanskrit and Prakrit) and several modern languages, Hindi, Marathi and Kannada), and has been a prolific author in Hindi and Sanskrit.
