With the introduction of new rules in the process of admissions to be done under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, now it will not be mandatory for the private unaided schools to admit students in 25 per cent quota. If a school, run by the Government, is located within a kilometer radius along with private unaided school, then the students would be admitted in Staterun institution.
The notification issued by the Government says, “Provided that the local authority shall not identify the private unaided school, for the purposes of 25 per cent admission of disadvantaged group and weaker section under the Maharashtra Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2013, where Government schools and aided schools are situated within a kilometre radius of that school.”
The admissions will be allowed in phase-wise manner. Under the process, Government schools run by Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad will be exhausted first, then aided schools, and if there are takers, students would be accommodated in private unaided schools.
