The Government of India has facilitated the procurement of SIM cards by Nepali people coming to India. People from Nepal visiting India were facing problems in getting SIM cards for their mobile phones.
A notification has been issued by the Telecom Department of India. The conditions for issuance of the SIM card have been changed. These changes will help people from Bhutan and Nepal to get the SIM cards easily. The SIM cards for foreign nationals were issued based on their Visa. Visa is not required to travel to and from Nepal and Bhutan to India. The government has decided to make available SIM cards to people from Nepal and Bhutan without visas. Only a Citizenship certificate, passport and identity card will have to be submitted to get the SIM card.
A large number of people from Nepal come to India for education and in search of jobs and also as tourists. Recently Indian Foreign Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his Nepal tour, was informed about the problems faced by Nepali people.
