New Kamptee Police have arrested a robber who, after assaulting an elderly woman with an electric iron at her bungalow in the Cantonment Area, stole Rs 25,000 in cash along with gold ornaments. The culprit, identified as Arvind Ashish Kumre (25), a native of Khursapar, Tehsil Saoner, was nabbed within six hours of committing the daring robbery.
The victim, Amarender Ajit Bedi (66), resident of Bungalow No. 10 in the Cantonment Area of Kamptee, was alone in her residence when the incident occurred. As she was sleeping in her bedroom, she was startled awake around 1:30 am upon sensing movement in the backyard. When she went to check and opened the rear door, Arvind Kumre jumped inside the house from the window and attacked her with an electric iron, injuring her seriously. Kumre then removed the gold and silver chains worn by her. He also stole Rs 25,000 from an almirah and a cell phone and decamped with the booty.
After the incident came to light, the victim was rushed to Asha Hospital, Kamptee. After recording the victim’s statement, New Kamptee Police nabbed Kumre and recovered the cash and gold and silver chains from him.
