Though the family head succumbed to his injuries at Bhandara, his motivated kins brought the body to Nagpur so that his organs can be donated to provide new lease of life to the needy. This is probably the unique example in recent times as far as Nagpur zone is concerned where relatives with an intention of organ donation even brought body to Nagpur.
In a remarkable display of altruism, the family of Ramdas Singanjude, a car driver who tragically lost his life in an accident, chose to donate his organs, providing a new lease of life to those in need. Ramdas succumbed to his injuries at Bhandara, but his family, driven by a noble cause, transported his body to Nagpur to facilitate organ donation, an unprecedented act in the Nagpur zone.
Despite the devastating loss, Ramdas’ family, including his wife Malti and son Nayan, embraced the idea of organ donation after counseling from doctors and counselors, understanding its significance and impact. Dr. Rahul Saxena, Secretary of Zonal Transplant Coordination Committee (ZTCC), highlighted the family’s motivation for this noble cause and praised the collaborative efforts of medical professionals involved.
Under the guidance of Dr. Gopal Sarve and the coordination of Dr. Sanjay Kolte, President of ZTCC, Ramdas’ organs were donated, with his elder brother Radheshyam giving consent. The organs, including two kidneys, a liver, and corneas, were distributed according to the waiting list, extending a lifeline to recipients at Alexis Hospital, KIMS-Kingsway Hospital, and Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur.
The gesture was commemorated with an honor corridor at Alexis Hospital, where tributes were paid to the donor. The hospital also facilitated the transportation of Ramdas’ body to his native place in Lahoti, Bela, district Bhandara, reflecting their commitment to this act of kindness.
