The Public Works Department (PWD) has unveiled a comprehensive plan for a four-lane flyover spanning 800 meters, linking Omkar Nagar and Mhalgi Nagar Squares within the South Nagpur assembly constituency, under the supervision of legislator Mohan Mate. Crossing two assembly constituencies, including Nagpur South West represented by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the flyover aims to address growing traffic congestion.
Additionally, the World Bank division of the PWD has proposed constructing a flyover on the inner ring road to facilitate smoother travel for those heading towards Manewada and beyond. The evolution of the ring road from a peripheral route of the city has now turned into another arterial road as the city has spread out to touch Dighori and Umred Road.
Named “Manewada Flyover,” the project will cost approximately 50.4 crore and feature anti-crash barriers on its ramps, ensuring enhanced safety for motorists. With a width of 17 meters and a one-meter divider, the flyover aims to mitigate traffic stress while incorporating innovative features such as girders over adjacent nullahs to widen the pathway.
Mukul Deshkar, Deputy Engineer of the World Bank division within the PWD, highlighted the flyover’s role in alleviating road strain and emphasized its unique attributes, including anti-crash barriers and expanded ramps. The issuance of the work order is anticipated in early March, with a completion timeline of 24 months from the commencement date. Moreover, the contractor will oversee maintenance for 20 years post-completion, ensuring long-term functionality.
