Parking in Sitabuldi market will soon be easier with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s new multi-level automated parking plaza opening in early March. It will accommodate around 200 two-wheelers and 16 cars.
This state-of-the-art facility, constructed at a cost of 15 crore by M/s. Spark Constructions Private Limited, will provide space for approximately 200 two-wheelers and 16 sedan-size cars.
According to sources within the Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (Smart City), the Visvesvaraya Multi-level parking plaza in Sitabuldi is close to completion pending the implementation of specific fire safety measures and the commissioning of an electricity transformer.
The final approval from the National Institute of Technology (VNIT) will be pursued before dedicating the plaza to the public. VNIT has been tasked with conducting third-party audits of the parking plaza’s systems, including lift carrying capacity, ensuring thorough scrutiny before its opening to the public.
Anonymously sourced officials affirm that the plaza will likely open its doors by early March, marking a significant milestone in Sitabuldi’s infrastructure development. Though parking charges are still under consideration, it’s anticipated that a three-hour slot for four-wheelers may cost around Rs50, with rates for two-wheelers likely lower.
Delays in the project stemmed partly from procedural hurdles involving land usage changes and contractual obligations. As the opening day gets closer, traders in Sitabuldi are hopeful that it will make things less crowded and more convenient for shoppers.
Although the plaza may not completely solve parking issues, it’s expected to reduce traffic and bring relief to both shoppers and traders. However, stakeholders recognize that more actions may be needed to fully address the market’s changing requirements.
