In yet another brazen act of violence, a murder on the fifteenth day has rocked the city of Nagpur amidst a series of shooting incidents across the state. The victim, identified as Vinay Punekar, also known as Bablu Punekar, a former press photographer from Nagpur Times, was reportedly shot dead in his home by unidentified attackers. The incident happened today in the Raj Nagar area around 12:30 pm. According to police sources, Vinay was at his residence located in Golibar Chowk when unknown assailants confronted and fatally shot him on the spot.
The accused has been captured in the CCTV camera installed in the house of the deceased while running away from the house.
The shooting has sent shockwaves throughout Nagpur, leaving the community reeling with disbelief. Vinay, formerly with Nagpur Times, later worked in marketing at Dinshaws.
The incident, falling under the jurisdiction of the Nagpur Police Station, prompted an immediate response from senior Nagpur Police officers who swiftly rushed to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. Initial reports suggest that the victim was targeted with a single bullet, although the motive behind the murder remains elusive. Notably, there have been reports of multiple gunshots fired within the residence, indicating a potentially violent encounter.
The tragedy unfolded in the Rajnagar area, and the offence of murder was registered. The ongoing series of murders raises serious concerns about the law and order situation in the city, particularly for high-ranking officials such as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Union Minister.
