During a public event in Nagpur on Sunday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced that the entire city of Nagpur will have access to 24×7 drinking water within the next seven months. Gadkari highlighted that currently, 60%-70% of the city already benefits from round-the-clock water supply, making Nagpur the first city in the country to embark on such a significant initiative.
Gadkari inaugurated overhead water tanks in East Nagpur which he said will address water scarcity complaints. He said that Rs 1300 crore has been spent on laying new water pipelines all the way from Pench. “We have also repaired the Kanhan plant. Apart from this we are laying a network of water distribution pipes.”
Earlier, Gadkari inaugurated an e-library in Nagpur East, aimed at serving all age groups with comprehensive facilities. Gadkari emphasized its inclusivity, stating, “Be it youngsters or senior citizens, this building will have facilities for all of them. We know that earlier former Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari had started an e- library on Central Avenue Road and that too proved to be an excellent project.”
The Union Minister had a word of praise for local MLA Krishna Khopde. “Khopde was the one who insisted that a quality higher education institute be started in East Nagpur. He wanted Symbiosis to start a campus here and that’s what we did,” he said.
Gadkari announced a forthcoming Rs 150 crore ‘food mall’ project in Pardi. He mentioned that all roadside vendors would be allocated spaces there, offering snacks like paani puri and bhel in a healthier environment Roadside sale of items has to stop because the water disposal from these places leads to various diseases,” said Gadkari.
Gadkari highlighted the collaborative efforts of both Central and State Governments for Nagpur’s advancement during his address. He noted the significant job growth in the MIHAN-SEZ project, with nearly 70,000 youths from the city benefiting from the ambitious project.
