Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation plans to reduce the ticket fare by 33 percent. The fare is being reviewed given the coming summer vacations. The reduced fare will be brought in force from March 1.
Besides reduction in the fare, a new ‘Cash Back’ scheme is being introduced. The Maha Card users buying tickets worth more than Rs 800 will get 10 points and 10 percent of the fare will be given back. This new plan is being worked out and is in the final stages.
While introducing the new plan the old schemes will not be withdrawn. The 30 percent concession to the students will continue. In the scorching heat of Nagpur, Maha Metro has facilitated travel in the air-conditioned coach of Metro Rail.
Those travelling from Sitabuldi to Lokmanya Nagar will have to pay Rs 25 instead of Rs 30. With 30 percent students’ concession, the fare will be Rs 18 only.
The Phase-I of Nagpur Metro was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Through 36 operational stations, a ridership of around 75,000 has been achieved. On February 5 it was 95,000 and on January 1, 2023, it was the highest at 2.2 lakh.
Nagpur Metro is making efforts to increase ridership through various schemes, including share auto schemes at various stations. The train is available in every 15 minutes. The time gap is proposed to be reduced to 10 minutes between 8 am and 11 am, and 4 pm and 7 pm.
