Concerned about the high number of fatalities from road accidents and enraged by the increasing disregard for traffic regulations, Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal has resolved to take strict action against violators. Encouraging citizens to report any traffic violations within the Second Capital, the top law enforcement official has urged them to contact him directly at his mobile number 7385982212.
In response to last year’s alarming statistics of 294 fatalities in 1,646 reported road accidents within the city, Dr. Singal is taking a firm stance against motorists who flout traffic regulations. The causes behind such accidents are varied, including pedestrians opting to walk on roads instead of utilizing footpaths, instances of overspeeding, driver distractions, disregard for traffic signals, failure to use safety equipment like seat belts and helmets, wrong-way driving, reckless driving practices, driving under the influence of substances, mobile phone usage while driving, improper overtaking maneuvers, road potholes, and exceeding passenger capacities in auto-rickshaws and other public transport vehicles.
The Traffic Branch has initiated numerous traffic awareness programs targeting school and college students, as well as autorickshaw and truck drivers. Collaborating with the Public Works Department, National Highway Authority of India, and other relevant authorities, efforts are underway to install signboards and paint zebra crossings and stop lines at all intersections.
