Children below five years of age will be administered polio vaccine dose on March 3, under the National Pulse Polio Mission. The administration has made arrangements at various polio booths in the city. District Collector Dr Vipin Itankar has issued instructions to the Health Department officials for successful implementation of the mission.
A meeting to review preparation for the Polio Eradication drive was held under the chairmanship of Dr Itankar on Tuesday. Zilla Parishad CEO Saumya Sharma, District Civil Surgeon Dr Nivrutti Rathod, DHO Dr Revati Sable, Assistant Director Health Services (Leprosy) Dr Raj Gahlot, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Vidyanand Gaikwad and others were present.
Polio dose will be administered between 8 am and 5 pm on all the booths in urban and rural regions. The health workers will administer polio vaccine doses during home visits for those who missed the March 3 date.
They will visit every house for the purpose. Dr Itankar has appealed to the people to cooperate with the health workers. The WHO announced the target of eradication of polio in 1988. In Maharashtra the drive is implemented from 1995. Polio doses will also be administered at bus stations and railway stations.
