The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court refused to grant an interim stay to the suspension of RTM Nagpur University Vice-Chancellor Dr Subhash Chaudhari. Dr Chaudhari moved the High Court against his suspension as VC by the Chancellor and Governor Ramesh Bais on February 21.
Dr Chaudhari was suspended following a large number of complaints of mismanagement and action against the law. An enquiry against him was also instituted and the enquiry report was submitted.
The Vice-Chancellor of Gondwana University Dr Prashant Bokare was given additional charge of the RTMNU.
Dr Chaudhari was alleged of favouring MKCL, which was blacklisted. He had failed to act against Dharmesh Dhawankar, a teacher with the Department of Mass Communication, who was found involved in extortion from other university teachers.
The appointment of Dr Prashant Kadu as Dean of Interdisciplinary Faculty was also challenged. Besides these major allegations, some Senate members had charged Dr Chaudhari of acting against the existing rules. His way of functioning was also raised and discussed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council.
The High Court rejected his application to grant an interim stay on the suspension order and has reserved the final order in this connection.
Adv Sunil Manohar appeared for Dr Chaudhari. Advocate General Birendra Saraf appeared to the Chancellor.
