The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nagpur is organizing a one-day workshop on ‘Severe Weather and Meteorological Services in Central India’ to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on March 6th.
Various events are scheduled to take place throughout the year, beginning with the inauguration on January 15 and concluding on January 15, 2025.
Scheduled at the VANAMATI Auditorium on VIP Road, the one-day workshop will run from 10 am to 6 pm. Its core objective is to underscore the impact of severe weather on diverse sectors, the role played by meteorological services in tackling these challenges, and the further enhancements needed in these services. Additionally, the workshop will feature numerous technical sessions and discussions.
Governor of Maharashtra Ramesh Bais will be the chief guest of the programme. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, and Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister will be the guests of honour. Dr M Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, IMD, New Delhi and M L Sahu, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, RMC Nagpur will also be present.
The event will be attended by farmers, scientists, medical doctors, central and state stake- holders, print and digital media, researchers, and senior officials from different government, semi-government, and non-government organisations.
There will be the unveiling of the Meteorological Plaque, remote inauguration of IMD’s departmental observatories in Chandrapur (Maharashtra) and Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh). A special edition of ‘Riturang’, the annual Hindi Magazine of RMC Nagpur will also be released by the Governor.
