The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) allocated Rs3 crore to repair 3,018 potholes within the city through private agencies, amounting to approximately Rs9,940 per pothole. Additionally, NMC’s hotmix department repaired 3,868 potholes across the city. Ajay Dahake, executive engineer of NMC’s hotmix department, disclosed that 2,093 potholes were repaired using Jetpatcher, while Instapatcher addressed 925 potholes with the allocated funds.
The department not only patched potholes but also resurfaced 40 tar roads, totaling over 24,561 meters. Rainfall contributed to 59% of the potholes, while 4% resulted from improper reconstruction after laying utilities, and 37% were due to neglected road renovations.
Dahake emphasized the importance of contractor accountability and proactive maintenance before monsoon. The hotmix department has urged deputy municipal commissioners to identify five non-concretized roads in each zone requiring rehabilitation, aiming to rectify all defective roads citywide.
