The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, has initiated a special geriatric outpatient department (OPD) on its campus.
This initiative is a response to the increasing population of senior citizens in Maharashtra, currently estimated at 12% of the state’s 12.5 crore population. As individuals age, they often encounter specific health challenges, and navigating the healthcare system can be challenging. The new geriatric OPD aims to address these concerns by offering dedicated services tailored to the needs of older adults.
The OPD will be staffed by specialists in various fields, including surgery, medicine, gynecology, and orthopedics, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care. A separate registration room will be provided for senior citizens, streamlining the process and reducing stress. All consultations and treatments offered at the geriatric OPD will be free of charge, eliminating a significant financial barrier for many seniors.
