The Union government announced on March 7 that it will be extending the subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for an additional year, till March 31, 2025.
During a press briefing, Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) will continue to receive a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder for up to 12 refills per year. Goyal also disclosed that as of March 1, 2024, the total count of PMUY beneficiaries exceeded 10.27 crore.
In October, the government increased the subsidy for beneficiaries to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder from the previous Rs 200 per LPG cylinder.
As per government sources, the effective price of domestic LPG for PMUY consumers in Delhi is reported to be Rs 603 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder. It is estimated that the government’s total expenditure for the financial year 2024-25 will reach around Rs 12,000 crore. According to government statements, the average LPG consumption among PMUY consumers has surged by 29 percent, rising from 3.01 refills in FY20 to 3.87 refills (as of January 2024), proratedfor FY24.
