The Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court has instructed the joint committee formed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), and Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) to provide information on unauthorized constructions in the city and the measures taken against them within one week.
During a hearing on a suo moto public interest litigation, a division bench comprising Justice Nitin Sambre and Justice Abhay Mantri requested information on the steps taken against unauthorized constructions identified by the joint committee.
Amicus Curiae Adv Apurv De informed the court that the joint committee had identified nearly 4,554 unauthorised con- structions in the jurisdiction of NMC, NIT and NMRDA. Till date the authority had razed 1,534 illegal structures. The committee has not initiated any action against 2,376 unauthorized structures, he added.
The High Court directed the joint committee to produce a list of such unauthorised costructions mentioning their location, area under encroachment and area under unauthorised construction. The court further directed that the joint committee should also provide a list of the structures which were pulled down till February 29.
