124 admitted to GMCH alone
The food consumed during fast posted serious problems in Nagpur. As many as 124 people suffered after consuming food allowed during the fast.
Sabudana (Sago), singhada (water chestnuts) powder and other mixtures available in the market are suspected to have caused food poisoning. Some of them are required hospitalisation.
According to reports as many as 124 people reached hospitals in the city.
March 8, the Mahashivratri day, was a major fasting day. The Government Medical College and Hospital received 124 patients during the last 24 hours. They sufferred from vomiting and abdominal pain.
The number of patients admitted in private hospitals with similar symptoms could not be confirmed.
About 8 patients arrived at the Ambazari Ordnance Factory Hospital with the same symptoms of loose motions and vomiting. They were referred to GMCH.
Some of the purchased Singhada flour at cheaper rate from a street vendor and consumed it.
