The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed Rishabh Pant’s full fitness for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Pant, who has been undergoing rehabilitation for 14 months, commenced training in preparation for the upcoming IPL season and has now been cleared to join the Delhi Capitals camp.
In its release, the BCCI confirmed that pace bowlers Mohammed Shami and Prasidh Krishna will be unable to participate in this season’s T20 league. Pant, who had survived a near-fatal car accident in December 2022, had been entirely sidelined from cricket since then. The wicket-keeper batsman resumed cricketing activities a few months ago. He dedicated himself to rigorous fitness training at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru (NCA) to ensure his availability for the IPL.
The BCCI release read:
Rishabh Pant: After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Prasidh Krishna: The fast bowler underwent surgery on February 23rd, 2024, on his left proximal quadriceps tendon. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team and will resume rehab at the National Cricket Academy soon. He will not be able to take part in the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
Mohd Shami: The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for his right heel problem. He is currently being monitored by the BCCI medical team and is ruled out of the upcoming TATA IPL 2024.
As for Prasidh and Shami, the pace duo’s absence from the IPL 2024 season could deliver a big blow to their chances of representing the Indian team in the T20 World Cup that takes place right after the conclusion of the T20 league.
