Renowned Marathi writer and novelist Krishnat Khot was awarded the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award for his novel ‘Ringan’. The award was conferred upon Khot at a glittering function held on Tuesday. Renowned writer from Odisha Pratibha Rai was the chief guest. President of the Academy Madhav Kaushik, Vice-president Kusum Sharma and Secretary K Shrinivasa were seated on the dais. Litterauers from 24 Indian languages were honoured with the highest literary award in India for the year 2023. The award consists of a ‘Tamprapatra’ (Copper Plate Certificate of Honour), shawl and Rs 1 lakh.
‘Ringan’ is a novel based on the struggle of people displaced due to an irrigation dam project.
Khot’s writing relates to rural communities, their life, struggle and their relations with nature. He has been honoured with several awards for his writing, including the Yashvantrao Chavan State Award, Maharashtra Foundation (America) Award, V S Khandekar Award, Baburao Bagul Award, Bhairuratan Damani Award etc.
