Senior BJP leader and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, 81, has been booked under a section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO) following a complaint by a 17-year-old of sexual assault.
The case was filed at a police station in Bengaluru late on Thursday.
Yediyurappa had been booked under section 8 of the POCSO Act and Section 354 A of the Indian Penal Code, according to the FIR, a copy of which has been assessed by Times Now.
The 17-year-old complainant was accompanied by her mother to the Sadashivanagar police station where the FIR was filed, police officials said.
The alleged incident of sexual assault took place on February 2, 2024, when the mother and complainant had gone to seek Yediyurappa’s help in connection with another case of sexual assault, sources said.
Yediyurappa has not reacted to the complaint yet.
The minimum punishment under POCSO Act 2012 is 3 years. However, it is subjected to the section under which the crime is falling. For instance, under section 4, the minimum punishment is 20 years in jail and a fine as decided by the court for sexual assault of a child below 16 years of age
