A major storm accompanied with blinding rain on Saturday afternoon battered the city. Hundred of tress were uprooted damaging houses, vehicles and electric infrastucture causing city’s fire and emergency services scrambling all over the city.
Many electric and streetlight poles collapsed causing blackouts in some area of the city.
Earlier, The Nagpur Meteorological Centre (RMC) issued a hailstorm warning, raising a ‘Yellow Alert’ from March 16 to 18 for Vidarbha, including Nagpur and nearby regions.
According to Weather Department forecasts, Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, and Chandrapur districts are likely to experience hailstorms and strong winds on March 17 and 18.
Similarly, Wardha and Gadchiroli districts may encounter gusty winds from March 16 to 18. However, areas including Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana, and Washim are expected to remain dry with no major weather disruptions.
