Over the years, there has been an increase of electric vehicles on roads, gradually replacing fuel-powered vehicles. Mahametro has taken the initiative to install charging points for charging electric vehicles. The municipality is actively promoting the installation of charging points. As a result, electric vehicles will be seen running smoothly in future.
The number of people buying electric vehicles in the city is increasing. With the rising prices of petrol and diesel, and the availability of good mileage after a single recharge, people are now showing interest in buying electric vehicles.
Along with buying electric scooters, citizens are also opting to buy e-four-wheelers. Also, there is an increase in the purchase of e-rickshaws compared to tourist taxis, delivery vans, cart goods. As the speed of e-vehicles has increased, the trend of consumers has shifted towards EVs. Considering the growing demand, new big companies have entered the market.
In the coming days, there will be a surge in electric vehicle usage. The government is promoting electric vehicles to curb rising pollution in cities. If we look at the number of vehicles registered in the three transport department offices in the city, more vehicles have been registered in 2023 as compared to 2022. In the year 2022, 1,621 vehicles were registered in rural RTOs and in the year 2023 it increased to 3,102 vehicles.
As per the sources, in 2022, 9,001 vehicles were registered in the East RTO, and this number increased to 9,200 in 2023. Similarly, the City RTO saw registrations rise from 2,806 in 2022 to 2,870 in 2023. Additionally, 1,744 new electric vehicles were registered in 2023 compared to 2022. These vehicles are gaining popularity not only in urban areas but also in rural regions, as evident from the RTO data.
