In a recent incident at Nagpur’s Agarsen Metro Station, the importance of enforcing regulations regarding prohibited items became starkly apparent. A security guard was assaulted by a passenger who was attempting to carry mutton, a banned item, onto the metro. Despite the guard’s efforts to explain the rules, the passenger responded with verbal abuse and physical aggression.
This incident highlights the significant challenges faced by metro security personnel in enforcing regulations effectively. To maintain safety and security, it’s crucial to understand the extensive list of prohibited items on the metro:
1. Dangerous Materials:
– Explosive substances
– Compressed, liquefied, or dissolved gases under pressure
– Inflammable liquids and solids
– Oxidizing substances
– Poisonous (toxic) substances
– Acids and corrosives
– Radioactive substances
– Weapons, arms, and ammunitions
– Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Enhanced Conventional Weapons
2. Offensive Materials:

Additionally, live animals or birds, except for sniffer dogs accompanying security personnel, are prohibited on the metro.
The Nagpur Metro is the only green metro of the country. Several measures have been taken to conserve electricity and environment. The Nagpur Metro also impose a complete ban on tobacco and tobacco mixed products in metro trains. Passengers found with the banned products would be fined.
Following the assault incident, a complaint was promptly filed at Ganeshpeth Police Station, with the Nagpur Metro Rail Employees Union advocating for action against the attacker. Metro authorities were urged to implement stringent measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
To address the challenges faced by metro security, routine inspections of passengers’ belongings are essential to ensure compliance with the prohibition of banned items.
