The online food delivery company Zomato, has launched ‘Pure Veg Mode’ and ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ to cater to customers who adhere to a 100% vegetarian diet. The announcement was shared by Zomato’s founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, on the platform formerly known as Twitter, on Tuesday.
“India has the largest percentage of vegetarians in the world, and one of the most important feedback we’ve gotten from them is that they are very particular about how their food is cooked, and how their food is handled,” said Goyal.
The founder of the food delivery company stated that the service has been introduced based on the feedback received from vegetarians across the country. “To solve for their dietary preferences, we are today, launching a “Pure Veg Mode” along with a “Pure Veg Fleet” on Zomato, for customers who have a 100 per cent vegetarian dietary preference,” said Deepinder Goyal.
The restaurants in the pure veg mode will consist of a list of outlets that only cook and serve vegetarian food. “Pure Veg Mode will consist of a curation of restaurants that serve only pure vegetarian food, and will exclude all restaurants which serve any non-veg food item,” said Goyal on his X (formerly known as Twitter) account.
Goyal emphasized that the initiative is not intended to cater to or isolate any religious or political preferences.
Goyal mentioned that the Gurugram-based company is planning to incorporate additional specialized fleets to meet specific customer requirements. For instance, there will be a cake delivery fleet equipped with hydraulic balancers to ensure cakes remain intact and undamaged during transit.
The implementation of this feature will be gradually introduced across the country over the next few weeks.
On Monday, speaking at the Startup Mahakumbh in New Delhi, Goyal said quickcommerce arm Blinkit will become larger than Zomato’s food-delivery business in a year.
In a chat with Info Edge cofounder and vice-chairman Sanjeev Bikhchandani, who also sits on Zomato’s board, Goyal said, “For us, it’s all about how we disrupt our own businesses… we have a business plan competition wherein we will offer funds to a small team, which will disrupt the businesses that we’re in.”
“This will lead to Zomato version 5 or Blinkit version 2. Blinkit is a part of Zomato version 4, and in one year’s time, Blinkit would be bigger than Zomato,” he added. Zomato posted its first quarterly profit in April-June FY24, but Goyal said the company went into a loss-making stage because of the funding it raised early on.
