The Nagpur cyber police have arrested two individuals from Uttar Pradesh, Seizing from them 2,626 SIM cards and 40 mobile phones purportedly used in online fraud activities, the officials reported.
The accused, originally from the Hardoi district in UP, were identified, they said.
In December last year, a resident of Nagpur in Maharashtra allegedly fell prey to the fraudsters, losing Rs 11.40 lakh, as per police statements on Wednesday.
Following the victim’s complaint, the Katol police registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act. Acting on credible intelligence, the Nagpur rural cyber police traced the culprits to Hardoi, according to officials.
Assisted by local law enforcement, they arrested the two accused, both aged 25, and seized 2,626 SIM cards and 40 mobile phones from their possession, the officials confirmed.
