The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) administration has appealed to citizens to avoid wasting water on Holi this year.
Superintendent engineer at NMC’s public health and engineering department Shweta Banerjee said, “Regular water supply will continue on the day of Holi. In non-network areas, water will be supplied through tankers only when necessary from afternoon onwards.
Do not waste drinking water while playing Holi. Around 150 tankers are operating in non-network areas. Do not use chemical colours. Citizens need to make efforts to conserve the environment.”
Nevertheless, cases of illegal cutting of trees for holika dehan came to light at many places in the city. Chorpagar said that along with registering cases against those who cut trees without permission, a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh can also be imposed. “Even after Holi, if any complaint is received, action will be taken against the concerned.
Action will be taken as per Maharashtra (Urban Area) Tree Protection Act 1975, Maharashtra (Urban Area) Tree Conservation and Promotion Rules 2009 and court guidelines,” he said.
