Dr. Sumbul Siddiqui explained that in the case of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a foetal blood vessel that normally closes after birth remains open, causing irregular blood flow between the aorta and the pulmonary artery. An uncorrected PDA can lead to congestive heart failure as the child grows.
Dr. Sumbul Siddiqui & Dr. Sachin Kuthe – Cardiac Surgeons and Dr. Abhiram Chandran- Paediatrician stabilized this patient and posted for surgical management. Accordingly, Dr. Sachin Kuthe- Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon performed the VSD closure with PDA ligation with TV repair. Dr. Ajay Hardas assisted the surgery while Dr. Rupali Shendre provided the necessary critical anaesthesia while Sr. Arti & Sr. Mitali assisted them during the surgery. Ms. Christina & Mr. Anshul were the perfusionist. The surgery was uneventful and post operatively child gradually improved and was discharged home. The highly advanced surgery, performed free of cost under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojna (MJPJAY).
